Positivo IP camera setup issue (fixed)
Struggling to connect your smart camera because the official setup keeps failing? Here is a practical, step-by-step fix using a mobile hotspot to get your device online without losing your mind.
Summary
- The official setup often fails to detect the camera even on compatible wireless networks.
- Using a secondary phone as a portable internet router bypasses initial connection blocks.
- Updating the embedded permanent software is mandatory to fix hardware communication issues.
- Resetting the device after the update clears old configuration errors completely.
- Dual-band routers broadcasting combined network names often confuse smart home hardware.
The problem
The Positivo Casa Inteligente app may not detect the camera during setup, even on a 2.4GHz network, which is the slower Wi-Fi frequency that covers longer distances, and following the official steps.
Common symptoms
- App can’t find the camera
- Camera keeps blinking and never connects
- “Device not found” message
- Setup stuck on discovery
Definitive fix (step by step)
- Use two phones: one to configure, another as hotspot, which turns your mobile device into a portable Wi-Fi router sharing its cellular internet.
- Enable hotspot on the second phone (with mobile data).
- Connect the main phone to the hotspot and set up the camera.
- Update firmware, which is the permanent software embedded in the hardware, when prompted (mandatory).
- Reset the camera (press button for 5s until beep).
- Disable hotspot.
- Connect to your 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi and set up again.
Why it works
The hotspot provides a clean environment to update firmware. After reset, the camera is updated and gets detected on your main network.
Important tip
Make sure your network is truly 2.4GHz. Dual-band routers, which are devices broadcasting both slow-long-range and fast-short-range signals, with the same SSID, meaning the public name of your wireless network, can confuse the camera.
Quick summary
Hotspot → setup → firmware update → reset → final setup on 2.4GHz.
